December's Signs & Strains: Snowy Strains For Your Horoscope From Leafly

December's Signs & Strains: Snowy Strains For Your Horoscope From Leafly

Leafly is back with another comprehensive “Star Signs & Cannabis Strains” breakdown for December, and there’s plenty to unpack this month. Coming off of Thanksgiving, we’re diving straight into the holiday season. Even for those who do not observe the many holidays that occur throughout the month, the time off alone is enough to look forward to – a perfect time for self-care and spending time with your loved ones, along with some top-notch bud, of course.

For most, the weeks leading up to the holidays are typically busy. There are gifts to buy, work to finish, and goals to accomplish before 2022 comes around. However, there’s also plenty of changes that are already underway. A new moon and solar eclipse occurred on Dec. 5th in Sagittarius. Meanwhile, Mercury entered Capricorn yesterday on Dec. 13th, a full moon in Gemini on the 18th, and of course, Winter Solstice occurs on Dec. 21st. We’re teetering closer towards the end of the year and the start of a new one. It’s a contemplative time on the zodiac chart – a time to look back on the highs and lows of 2021 and envision the outcomes of 2022. And what better way to do that than adding a few packed weed bowls to your self-care ritual this December?

Below, we’ve broken down the strains to match your horoscope this month, courtesy of Leafly.

Sagittarius

As the month kicked off with a new moon in Sagittarius, it’s a time when things are coming together in your personal life. And with the holidays on the way, it only makes sense to celebrate your accomplishments and spend some love with those closest to you. Plus, a full moon enters Gemini on Dec. 18th, which is an even better time to get together with your friends and spread some love. The holidays are lonely for some. This time ahead is perfect for spending some quality time with pals and passing some joints around. Once we hit the Capricorn season and the Winter Solstice on the 21st, spend some time with yourself, reflecting and looking inward. But your ruler Jupiter enters Pisces on Dec. 28th, so prepare to tie up any loose ends and promises you’ve made this year.

Accompany the motions of this month with the aptly named December Nights OG strain. As the name suggests, this is a perfect spliff for these chilly December nights. The effects of the OG kush bring an ideal balance of body and cerebral high. December Nights OG is meant for those reflective solo nights or hanging with friends and passing a few joints around (we suggest smoking personals, though, in the wake of the recent spike of COVID-19 cases).

Capricorn

Capricorn season is slowly approaching. With December entering a new moon at the top of the month, there is no better time to spend quality moments with the family. However, it’s also a time for self-care, as you deserve. Days before Cap season begins, a full moon will enter Gemini on Dec. 18th. Then, the Winter Solstice on Dec. 21st. December is a month to celebrate yourself, your accomplishments, and your year. Turn up with your friends, throw a bash, and make sure you treat yourself. We’re entering the end of the calendar year and the start of the new one. Make sure you cap (get it, cap, Capricorn, no?) 2021 off with a bang.

As for the strain to accompany your birthday month, get your hands on some Snow Diesel. A hybrid strain with some potent effects to uplift your spirits when the days get shorter and the nights get longer. Snow Diesel is a cross between a clone of East Coast Sour Diesel and a male Snow Lotus plant. The smell of diesel aromas can range between sweet and candy-like to full-on dank. Bring some Snow Diesel for your next gathering to spread some snowy, balanced cheer. The uplifting and happy effects are perfect for sharing while the munchies come on heavy – perfect for hosting dinner parties this season.

Aquarius

Aquariuses, you’ve made it. 2021 has been jam-packed with ups and downs, some of which you may have had to handle on your own. The month started with a new moon in Sagittarius – which is a sign to make sure you spend some time with your loved ones, for your sake and theirs. The holidays are a time to be with your loved ones – make the most of it.

December also carries a few more ups and downs before the year closes. Uranus is in retrograde. Being that it is your ruler, it’s a peculiar time, and one where being cautious is encouraged. Your judgment might be cloudy, so thoroughly think out any decisions before their made. Any abrupt decision-making could lead to headaches down the line. However, when a new moon enters Gemini on Dec. 18th, then spend the third week of the month indulging in your social side. The Winter Solstice arrives on Dec. 21st, and it’s a perfect time to look inward and reflect on what 2022 has in store. After all, it is only a few weeks away.

There might be a lot going on with you internally this month, but a joint of Snow Mountain a day will keep the headaches away. This strain is an Indica-dominant strain with high THC levels made from a cross between Snow Cap, Pure Kush, and a rare Uzbekistani line. Medical patients have reported positive experiences with Snow Mountain as it helps with chronic pain management. The high is body-focused, though it comes with a relieving head high. As you spend time with your friends, remain cautious of the opportunities presented, and use some time to self-reflect. Snow Mountain will accompany you on the journey that is December.

Pisces

Pisces, there’s a lot to look forward to this month. The new moon entered Sagittarius on Dec. 4th, which made for an excellent time to connect with some family members or old friends you haven’t had time to see as of late. But, when Mars enters Sagittarius on Dec. 13th, there’s some new energy in the air that opens up the doors for adventure. It’s getting chillier outside, so it might be time to take a little vacation to a warm destination or spend days picking up on a new hobby in your cozy home. Though that might mean a bit more time for yourself, there’s going to be a full moon in Gemini a few days later on Dec. 18th. Emotions will be flowing, but it’s nothing to fret about as it will change soon. Once the Winter Solstice comes around, there’s even more time to be spending for yourself, perhaps committing further to the newfound hobby you picked up or finally getting around to learning something new (a recipe, a new language, the possibilities are endless!).

The internal motions might flow rapidly this month, and emotions might generally be high, but balancing it with Snow Queen can help you make it through this season. A balanced hybrid strain with limonene terpenes popping out, Snow Queen is a perfect pick-me-up after a stressful day. It’s known for its medicinal effects for patients diagnosed with depression, anxiety, pain, nausea, and stress due to its happy and euphoric feelings. All the Pisces should be stocking up on Snow Queen to accompany the long month ahead.

Aries

Aries, we’re here. It’s December, and there’s plenty to look forward to, but don’t get overzealous. The new moon entered Sag on Dec. 4th, making it the perfect time to spend some time indoors and focus on yourself. Things might seem a bit down, but the celestial powers of a new moon seem too ideal. Ultimately, make sure you’re keeping a realistic look at what’s ahead of you instead of trying to maintain a perfect schedule. Work is picking up just before the holidays while plans, from work parties to small gatherings, are being presented in all forms. It seems like a fun time, but it could also get overwhelming.

Mars, your ruler, is in motion across December, and when it enters Sagittarius on Dec. 13th, there will be a hunger for adventure. It might not be a cross-country marathon but presented in the form of new experiences – food, culture, bars, etc. Whatever it may be, embrace it but don’t get too ahead of yourself. All of these commitments will get overwhelming when you desire nights at home. All of these experiences will culminate into New Year’s Day when you can focus on what you truly want for 2022.

Here’s the thing though, Aries: Leafly assigned you the same strain as our lovely Saggitarius friends. While December Nights OG may certainly be the peaceful strain you need to help you chill out in the midst of your overscheduled life, we felt you deserved a strain of your very own. For that reason, we’re recommending an ultimate classic that inspires serenity, calmness, dreams, and balance – Northern Lights. While your nature might be trying to get you to handle everything, plan everything for everyone this season, Northern Lights’ strong Indica effects will remind you to slow down and smell the pine needles.

Taurus

Welcome to December, Taurus. The month has a few surprises in store but the holiday season also means that there’s a sense of familiarity swirling around you. Even if you don’t observe the holidays closely, carrying on traditions might bring harmony into your life, especially when 2022 comes around. The new moon in Sagittarius on Dec. 4th perfectly aligns with your thirst for something new, whether it’s switching up your style or meeting new people. However, things might get rocky once your ruler Jupiter, goes into retrograde on Dec. 19th. Your love life might not be in jeopardy, but it’s better to be clear and concise when communicating with your partner. Once Winter Solstice strikes on Dec. 21st and we enter Capricorn season, make sure to enjoy yourselves. The ups and downs might bring out a whirlwind of emotions but living in the moment and embracing each one is critical for your mental health.

Per Leafly’s excellent selection, you Tauruses share a strain of the moth with Capricorns, Snow Diesel. While that exuberant strain is certainly a fantastic choice for you all, we wanted to make sure you had your own special strain recommendation. As you’ll be dealing with some heavy moments and feelings this month, we highly recommend checking out a strain you may never have thought to toke before: White CBG. With very little THC and tons of uplifting, energizing CBG, this frosty strain not only looks like a snow-covered Christmas tree but also brings feelings of light and love to your aura.

Gemini

Shout out to all of the Geminis who are on pace to have an excellent month ahead. For starters, the new moon in Sagittarius on Dec. 4th marked a time to begin plotting out 2022. What do you want to accomplish? How are you going to do it? 2021 was a year to lay down the groundwork so you can reap the fruits of your labor in 2022. It’ll be a bit easier to be focused around this time, but your days will be spruced up on Dec. 13th when your ruler, Mercury, steps into Capricorn. You’ll be energized and grounded from this experience, leading to a full moon in Gemini on Dec. 18th. It is a perfect time to wrap up all of the holiday shopping you’ve been slowly getting to over the past few weeks before New Year hits. You want to be entering the new year strong, which is why the time for self-reflection and planning on the year ahead is crucial. It might feel easy to be derailed from your planning but remain focused and diligent during trying times.

Fueling your creativity and happiness this month is crucial before 2022 comes around. To that end, Leafly recommended Snow Mountain, the same strain they recommended for Aquariuses, for you fickle folks this holiday season. However, we think each unique sign deserves their own unique strain! Following that train of logic as well as the prospects the universe has in store for you, we recommend that you spark up with some Alpine Blue – a Sativa-dominant hybrid that will fill your space with piney, blueberry-like aromas and help you remain focused, open, and enlightened all month long.

Cancer

December is here for all the Cancer babies. The days got shorter over the past few weeks, but we will be experiencing the shortest day of them on when Winter Solstice arrives. You might be wishing for warmer and brighter weather, December is still looking great for all the Cancers. For one, there’ll be room for some rest and self-care after the hectic year that you’ve experienced. However, the month began with a new moon in Sagittarius, making for an excellent time for spontaneity and excitement. Since it is a time to be around those you love, put your energy towards creating new memories with your loved ones. Christmas markets, stargazing, or even engaging in some arts and crafts. With a full moon in Gemini on Dec. 19th, and Winter Solstice just a few days later, spend the remainder of the year focused on yourself. Use the time off to reflect and look ahead at the goals you’d like to accomplish in 2022.

No matter what’s coming up in your itinerary this December, a jar of Dream Queen will spruce up your days. It’s a sativa-dominant hybrid crossed between two impeccable strains – Blue Dream and Space Queen. Flavors and scents of bubble gum, mango, and pine emerge from these glorious buds that can pair well with the energizing feeling of the new moon in Sagittarius. Medical patients with Arthritis, depression, nausea, fibromyalgia, and fatigue are fond of this strain due to its uplifting, relieving, and euphoric effects.

Leo

You’ve made it this far, Leos. Congratulations! We’re quickly closing out 2021, so stay prepared for what’s in store for the coming year. Sure, there are the holidays to look forward to, but the many ideas rummaging in your mind are beginning to flesh themselves out with the new moon in Sagittarius on Dec. 4th. That said, there’s a need to be a bit more diligent when choosing which paths to pursue. Some of these big ideas you’ve had could fall flat without care.

Mercury enters Capricorn on Dec. 13th – another indication that you should wrap up any projects or work occupying your time. Things are bound to get hectic and potentially overwhelming, but stay calm – you got this.

Since Winter Solstice is about to hit just a few days later on Dec. 21st, the days are getting shorter and shorter. Leo’s ruler, the Sun, is currently on vacation. However, enjoying the shortest day of the year is filled with blessings. Take the opportunity to embrace the seasonal change because nothing lasts forever.

The question remains: which strain is fitting for a Leo this month? The days are chugging along whether you like it or not, so Night Train is a perfect companion for these coming nights in December. The Indica-dominant hybrid is a cross between Jasmine and Trainwreck. With a spicy flavor profile and an aromatic scent, Night Train is an excellent treat after these extended days ahead with its cerebral effects that can aid with sleeping difficulties or when you’re feeling blue. Its focusing effects also offer an excellent aid for narrowing down those big ideas.

Virgo

Virgos, the end of the year is finally here. It’s been a wild one, for sure, but one with many lessons to take away. As the new moon kicks off in December, there’s some time to look back on the year. Focus on your loved ones, the friends and family who’ve stuck by your side during this past year. It’s an opportunity to grow the relationships in your life and strengthen your communication with family and friends.

The plus side to December is that Virgo’s ruler, Mercury, is in motion, including when it enters Capricorn on Dec. 13th. After spending time with your friends and family, this is the best time to reconnect with yourself, your passions, desires, and goals. You have a moment to disconnect from communication entirely to put your efforts towards developing your business or putting your projects in focus. After the full moon in Gemini on Dec. 18th, Winter Solstice arrives on the 21st. That means spending the holidays the way you started the month – with friends and family. The year slowly closes out, so be sure to use this time effectively, as well. Start planning out 2022 but also, make sure you party it up a little bit. You deserve it.

With all that’s going on throughout your month, be sure to pick up some Tangier Chilly. This Indica-dominant hybrid is a cross between three classic strains – Tangie, Larry OG, and Pakistani. It’s a sweet smoke with sweet flavors of citrus and lemon bursting out in every toke. Its smell is a bit more earthy, with pine and wood notes that will remind you of a crackling fire. Tangier Chilly is a smoke that emphasizes the beauties of Kush with a happy, euphoric, and uplifting high.

Libra

The common denominator this month is spending time with loved ones and for Libras, it’s no different. Especially with the new moon in Sagittarius, Libras should be catching up with old friends they haven’t seen in a while or checking up on family members. Then, when Mars enters Sagittarius on Dec. 13th, a sense of adventure will sneak up on Libras. Though the year is about to close out, this is a perfect time to take a little vacation away from your standard settings. However, a staycation could be equally fulfilling if the efforts of heading outside of your hometown or state are strenuous.

Libras ruler, Jupiter, is in motion until going into retrograde on Dec. 19th. Unfortunately, that means taking a bit more precaution with your interactions with others. Tread lightly with your words and when communicating with those around you. If things have been shaky with your partner, this opens up an opportunity to tap into their needs and wants. Ultimately, the extra care you put into communicating with others will come back to you tenfold when the new year comes around.

Libras strain for December is Frosted Freak, a Michigan-grown strain picking up popularity ever since legalization in the state. The Sativa-dominant hybrid is a cross between Brand X and a rare Sativa-dominant called High Roller. The name derives from crystals covering the bud to make it look nearly snow white. Don’t get it twisted, though – Frosted Freaks isn’t one of the cereal-themed strains on the market. The beautiful citrus and mint aromas intermix with an earthy pine, while the flavor profiles carry similar notes. Frosted Freak will take you on a journey. There’s an uplifting and euphoric feeling that creeps up on you in the wake of your session, along with a boost of energy that’s excellent for social gatherings. However, the sedative effects follow shortly, leaving you completely calm and relaxed.

Scorpio

Scorpios, the year is almost done, but there’s still some more in store for you before 2021 comes to a complete close. For one, make sure that you spend some time with your family. The new moon in Sagittarius on Dec. 4th is an excellent opportunity for a family adventure. Plus, it’s the holidays, so why not a Christmas market or some outdoor family fun? Beyond that, when your ruler Mars enters Sagittarius on Dec. 13th, there’s an adventure on the horizon. That could come in different forms, but if you’ve spent the year eyeing a little trip, this is the time to book that flight. However, don’t overcommit yourself to any one thing in particular. Planning is always good, though spontaneity is also necessary around this time. As Winter Solstice comes around on Dec. 21st, which also marks the beginning of Capricorn season, end the year on a high note. Whether following an annual tradition or doing something as simple as organizing your spice cabinet, make sure that there’s at least one thing that brings some peace and joy to your life.

Scorpio, this month’s strain of choice from Leafly is Snow Queen, but like with some other signs, they gave you the same as another Zodiac grouping. Because everyone deserves to feel special, we selected a different special strain of the month just for you adventurous beings: Shortbread. While the medium-high, energizing THC levels will keep you moving onward and upward, the comforting and familiar scent, highlighted by citrus and the smallest hints of diesel, will keep your feet on the ground.
