Marijuana minus the munchies? If it sounds too ridiculous to be true, it probably is...
According to sources, Real Housewives of New York City star Bethany Frankel is using her celebrity power to launch her new line of "Skinnygirl marijuana", which is expected to hit states where recreational marijuana is now legalized.
“It will be a specially engineered strain of pot designed to not give you the munchies,”said an industry insider who works alongside Frankel, to U.S. Weekly.
What makes this announcement absurd, is the fact that there are already strains of marijuana on the market that don't cause "the munchies", along with self control, so creating a strain that focuses solely on this for the sake of promoting her "Skinnygirl" brand, reeks of Kim Kardashian-like marketing appeal.
The story, which broke recently on U.S. Weekly's website, doesn't provide a motive, other than money, for why the Real Housewives star is choosing to get into the business.
"She read about how profitable the cannabis industry is and wants to get in on that" said an insider who works close to Frankel.
Unlike other stories of medical marijuana dispensary owners who have paved the way to help alleviate life-threatening symptoms in their patients, or recreational facilities that see the current burden that marijuana has on taxpayers and the legal system, Frankel's motives seem shallow and reminiscent of a Jenny Jones make-over for your favorite marijuana strain.
Regardless of the Kim K comparison, Frankel's Skinnygirl empire will soon be supplying recreational stoners in legalized states such as Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and Alaska with "munchie-free" weed, which may not be such a a bad idea considering that more than one and three Americans are obese
