An unopened package of humidity packs is typically shelf stable for up to a year. Once opened and put into jars, tins, or Mylar bags, it depends on how often the package is opened. Humidity packs can last for 2-4 months if the package is opened infrequently. However, a package that is opened often will reduce the lifespan of a humidity pack to a couple of weeks. Some humidity packs include an indicator to signify when it should be replaced.

They are made with a foam center between low density polyethylene layers. Foam liners are suitable for both dry and liquid products, but do not create a seal.
