Yes and no. When an airtight glass jar is properly sealed, it can be incredibly smell proof, even to dogs. However, some plastic jars are not as effective at blocking scents. Additionally, if product material comes in contact with the outside of the jar, it doesn’t matter how tightly you seal the container. There will still be traces of product scent on the external walls (unless you wipe it down with an effective sanitizer, of course).

Many airtight glass jars utilize “ push down and turn” caps, which were also designed to be child-resistant. Think of opening a prescription bottle - opening a “push down and turn” product jar cap is the same process. Press down on the lid with the palm of your hand, then grasp and twist - it should pop right off. There are other airtight glass jar caps though, such as wooden lids with suction seals. Those are a bit easier to open; simply pry from the underside of the cap until it pops up and off!
