Dropper bottles are probably one of the few cannabis packaging items that even the non cannabis community knows about - whether they know they’re used for cannabis products or not. Glass dropper bottles are common across innumerable industries, notably, in pharmaceuticals as the medicine dropper bottle. But in the cannabis industry, we also know and love them as “tincture bottles.”
Tincture, a liquid cannabis concentrate, is most often sold in dropper bottles, hence the industry name they’ve gained. Because of tincture’s low viscosity, you can’t package it like some other medium and high viscosity concentrates that go in jars or envelopes (wax, shatter, etc.). Tincture dropper bottles are the perfect container for liquid concentrates that allow everyone to measure out their proper dosages.
Tinctures (and other liquid extracts) are becoming increasingly popular as nutraceuticals, AKA food and plant-derived alternative remedies, supplements, etc. One of the most popular of those tinctures is CBD (cannabidiol) oil, which has caught on as a therapeutic tincture among widely varying demographics. Scientists are studying it as a treatment for childhood seizures while older adults are relying on it to soothe their arthritis.
Beyond CBD oil, THC oils and distillates are also popularly packaged in wholesale dropper bottles. When a cannabis concentrate comes in a tincture dropper, it’s not for dabbing or vaping. Tinctures and distillates are generally for oral or sublingual consumption and topical application, which is where the graduated pipette dropper on the caps of our glass tincture bottles really comes in handy.
Some of our wholesale glass dropper bottles come with caps included while others are sold separately from the caps. This is to give you and your brand more customizing potential - even though it’s just a cap, it’s still important that it’s the right one for you. And honestly, it’s not just a cap because of the attached glass pipette dropper that makes dosing a dream for your customers and/or patients.
Speaking of customization, our collection of wholesale dropper bottles includes a multitude of color, size, and opacity options. This not only makes it easy to choose and create the best tincture packaging for your brand, but it also makes it easy to meet your state’s compliance regulations. In addition to fully opaque, matte black or white bulk tincture bottles, we also carry a range of child resistant dropper bottles!

What Are Dropper Bottles?
Glass dropper bottles have been around for centuries and have most commonly been used as a medicine dropper bottle of some sort throughout history. They were (and still are) used as ear or eye dropper bottles and have also frequently been used for various types of cosmetics such as face serums. In the cannabis industry, tincture dropper bottles can work for a range of products, from consumable to topical.
Another name you’ll commonly see for these types of tincture bottles wholesale is “Boston Round dropper bottles,” or “Boston Rounds.” They became increasingly popular as glass blowing was automated in the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly for liquid medications. Manufacturers also began using collared glass, primarily brown or “amber,” for its light blocking properties around this same time.
Glass dropper bottles are generally pretty small because the products within are generally pretty potent (that goes for cosmetics - both regular and cannabis-infused - too). You typically only need a small amount of whatever’s inside, be it a highly-concentrated tincture or an ultra-rejuvenating face serum. The most common cannabis products that are housed in small dropper bottles are CBD oils, THC oils, and various distillates, which can be up to 99% cannabinoids!
With that kind of potency, it’s easy to see why consumers only need a small amount of the dropper vial contents. Most bulk dropper bottles for sale hold between 1 and 2 ounces (~ 30 to ~ 60 mL) of liquid cannabis products, though there are smaller tincture bottles available. But as these products are liquid, measuring them out for proper dosing is a lot different than reaching for a capsule or gummy.
That’s where the graduated dropper comes in handy! When something is “graduated,” it means that it has visible measurement markings on it, which can be in any kind of increment. All of our graduated glass droppers come in 0.25 mL
increments and can draw up to 1 mL
of liquid concentrate at a time. While many people love and rely on these measurement markings, some people prefer not to include them in their tincture packaging, which is why we also make non-graduated droppers!
For consumers and medical marijuana patients that have been taking liquid cannabis products for a while, the graduated marking can become obsolete. Plus, if you know your dosage and know the general capacity of the glass dropper, you can feel pretty confident in measuring your dose somewhat blindly. But for others who are new to liquid concentrates, graduated droppers make ALL the difference.

What Types of Tincture Packaging Are Available?
We offer a wide variety of bulk dropper bottles, some with caps and a pipette dropper included, and some sold separately. All varieties are child proof dropper bottles, which checks off a huge compliance regulation box in many states. Whether you choose a pre-paired option or pair your dream dropper bottle with a child proof dropper cap, every complete dropper bottle in our collection meets CR standards.
With that out of the way, we can begin to focus on the aesthetic appeal of your empty dropper bottles, which will of course depend on numerous factors and what’s going inside of the bottles. Let’s take a quick look at each style of Boston dropper bottles in our collection.
We make two (2) sizes of either matte black or matte white opaque small glass dropper bottles :
1 oz - No Cap/Dropper Included
2 oz - No Cap/Dropper Included
It’s important to note that all of the bottle with dropper cap options with some of our small tincture bottles are black with clear glass, non-graduated droppers attached. If you’re placing a particularly large bulk tincture bottles order, though, we can special order graduated droppers for you. All but two (2) of our “sold-separately” caps/droppers are graduated and come in either black or white cap colors.
As we mentioned, all of our glass pipette dropper bottles are child resistant and, as you can now see, come in a range of colors. We’ll dive deeper into the purposes of those hues in our next section!
Why Are Some Tincture Bottles Colored?
Most clear glass blocks UVB rays, which are primarily responsible for causing sunburns. However, it doesn’t block UVA rays, which can cause skin damage as well as damage to certain organic materials, notably the cannabinoids in cannabis concentrates. So while we do make and sell clear empty tincture bottles, many of our customers prefer the colored or opaque options for their increased UV protection.
Adding a wide, tall label to your clear small dropper bottles may help with blocking light, but amber, blue, and opaque black or white glass dropper bottles will absolutely offer better protection. Amber glass, which is very commonly used to make beer bottles, blocks nearly all harmful UV light that can cause the cannabinoids in your concentrates to break down. Amber colored Boston Round dropper bottles are a super popular choice for concentrates that will be advertised as “therapeutic” or “medicinal” because of their reminiscence of the classic medicine dropper bottle.
Blue or cobalt glass mini dropper bottles are also effective at blocking a good amount of UV light, however, they’re not the best at blocking blue light specifically. That being said, cobalt glass is incredibly beautiful, alluring, and aesthetic in pipette bottle form, and does make a mostly protective home for your cannabis concentrates. Plus, it definitely stands out on dispensary shelves, especially with custom labeling.
Last but certainly not least, our matte black or matte white wholesale glass dropper bottles are a sleek modern take on classic dropper bottles. They’re made using simple clear empty dropper bottles that are dipped in color - like a soft serve ice cream cone getting dipped in chocolate that hardens almost instantly. While we adore all of our tincture bottles wholesale, there’s just no way around the fact that these fully opaque bottles offer the best light protection for your valuable liquid cannabis concentrates.
Light is an arch-nemesis of cannabinoids, alongside heat, humidity, and oxygen. Keeping those elements away from your concentrates is the best way to ensure their longevity throughout transport, display, sale, and when your customers keep them at home. But all of these bottles don’t just help for cannabis-infused products - they can also be used as herbal tincture bottles, essential oil bottles, and more for their protective properties.
Does My Business Need Glass Dropper Bottles?
If your company is producing any type of cannabis oil, tincture, distillate, or another liquid cannabis concentrate, you almost absolutely need dropper bottle packaging. You likely also need our child resistant dropper caps to meet the compliance packaging laws in your state. Thankfully, we’ve got you covered. But just knowing that you do need dropper packaging is hardly the last thing you’ll need to consider on this front.
As we’ve established, child resistant dropper bottles are the best way to package your orally consumable liquid cannabis concentrates. The calibrated dropper makes dosing easy as pie, and consumers can use their personal bottle and drop the oil straight into their mouths. No muss, no fuss! But now you know you definitely need bulk dropper bottles of some sort, you need to consider two things in tandem: your state’s compliance laws surrounding opacity and your brand’s aesthetic style.
Some states, like Colorado, for instance, require completely opaque packaging for ALL cannabis products. Others, like California, only require edibles to be in opaque containers. But even if you live in a state that requires opaque concentrate bottles/jars, the matte black or white ones may not be your only options. Some states, like California, include amber bottles in their definition of opaque!
Compliance packaging laws vary from state to state and are constantly in flux - trust us, we know it can be a headache. While it’s of the utmost importance to always adhere to compliance laws, it’s also important to design your packaging according to your vision, the one you had way back when you started your concentrate-making venture. Your brand should be your brand, not another generic tincture dropper bottle that disappears in the crowds of similar-looking products.
Our collection of dropper bottles has everything from time-honored classic designs to modern, matte glass bottles, making it easy for you to choose the right base for your brand. Plus, with how beautiful our opaque glass bottles are, you won’t be bothered by the opacity requirements in your state. With the help of our amazing custom design team, you’ll be on the way to creating your ideal Boston Round dropper bottles.
A tincture bottle with dropper cap may be a vintage idea, but thanks to today’s technology, they’re anything but outdated. If you’re in need of bulk tincture bottles, we’ve absolutely got you covered.
Where To Buy Dropper Bottles Wholesale
Finding, designing, and buying glass tincture bottles wholesale couldn’t be any easier thanks to our vast collection, stellar custom team, and price beat guarantee. At Marijuana Packaging, we understand the ins and outs of packaging cannabis products better than anyone else. As public interest and laws are continually in motion, one thing remains the same: people love cannabis, especially new, potent forms.
Although some types of popular concentrates are far from new to the cannabis scene, concentrates, in general, are relatively new to the entirety of the modern cannabis community. There are those who have been dabbing for a decade and those who are just now trying a CBD dropper in the blossoming world of legal cannabis. Something both groups, and most groups in between, seem to be constantly seeking out are concentrates; they love them for their efficiency, convenience, and potency.
With such a wide variety of age and interest demographics seeking out liquid cannabis concentrates, it’s important that your wholesale dropper bottles appeal to a wide audience.Thankfully, our collection of uniquely beautiful tincture bottles strikes a delicate balance between classic and modern, simple and interesting, past and present. Most everyone recognizes and knows how to use dropper bottles, but yours will be distinctively designed.
People, for some reason, also love all things miniature. Mini tincture dropper bottles are a highly functional and sensible way to package cannabis concentrates, but they’re also attractive simply for their adorable nature. Take, for instance, our popular 2 oz matte white glass dropper bottle - it’s only 94mm (3.7in) tall! That’s only a little bit longer than a classic joint and people just go crazy over them, especially when they're beautifully branded.
There’s obviously a lot to consider when you set out to buy tincture bottles, including the valuable contents that will fill them. Although tincture bottles are often adorably small, they hold some of the most expensive forms of cannabis: extracts. There’s no room for cheap glass dropper bottles in your operation - not when you’ve put too much work, time, and money into making (or sourcing) your valuable concentrates.
But that doesn’t mean you need to break the bank when buying glass dropper bottles bulk! Thanks to our wholesale system, the more tincture bottles you order, the lower the cost per unit. Feel free to play around with design ideas, calibrated glass dropper options, and even order samples to see and feel your options in real life. When you finally settle on a concept for your wholesale dropper bottles, it should feel 100% right.
Dropper Bottles - The Bottom Line
Throughout the years, the idea behind the little glass bottle with a pipette dropper cap hasn’t changed all that much. While small things have shifted, like the quality of the glass and the precision of the threading, much of the original design remains. That’s because empty dropper bottles were a brilliant invention that have served many people in many very different ways, from eye dropper bottles to cannabis tincture bottles.
While you’re choosing your tincture bottles wholesale, don’t forget that you may need or want custom dropper bottle boxes or dropper bottle shrink bands. Both of these items can be helpful for meeting tamper evident compliance regulations and adding a customized box around your tincture bottles adds an air of professionalism to your brand.
Frequently Asked Questions About Dropper Bottles
What Is A Tincture Bottle?
A tincture bottle is a small glass bottle with a distinct shape known as a Boston Round Dropper Bottle. They’re typically made from amber, green, or cobalt blue glass as those colors offer better UV protection than clear glass, which is crucial since UV rays can degrade the cannabinoids in tinctures. They’re also almost always equipped with a dropper cap, which is a cap that has a glass pipette tube attached to the bottom for easing tincture dosing.
Where To Buy Tincture Bottles
We have a vast and diverse collection of glass dropper bottles right here at Marijuana Packaging! We carry 5, 10, 15, 30, and 60 mL sizes in a range of colors and opacities, including the well-known light blocking color, amber. Some come with dropper caps included and we also sell dropper caps separately for ultimate customization.
How To Fill Tincture Bottles
One of the best ways to accurately fill tincture bottles is by using syringes, which allow precise measurement and accuracy when filling.
How To Open Tincture Bottle Caps
All of our tincture bottle caps are “Push Down & Turn” child resistant caps. To open them, grasp around the ribbed sides of the cap, push the cap into the bottle, and then twist in a counterclockwise direction. The cap should come off and then can be screwed back on time and again.
Dropper VS Pipette
Droppers and pipettes are interwoven in their roles, although they differ slightly. Pipettes are typically made from plastic and can be anywhere from a few to several inches long. They’re commonly used in laboratories and in gardening to transport and dispense small, precise amounts of liquid-like chemicals and fertilizers. A dropper is typically much smaller (an inch to maybe three inches), generally made from glass, and is attached to a rubber and plastic cap. It’s meant to be part of a dropper bottle for tinctures, medications, eye drops, etc.
