How to Open Child Proof Cap Easily
Child proof caps are often “push down & turn” caps. To open, grasp the edges and press firmly into the container, then twist in the direction of the indicating arrows. The cap should pop right off. If there are no arrows, remember: righty tighty, lefty loosey.
How to Open A Push Down and Turn Cap
This may seem straightforward, but there are various ways to open “push down & turn” caps. Some people prefer to use a flat hand and “palm” the cap; they’ll press down firmly and twist all with their palm without using their fingers to grasp the lid. However, modern child proof caps are getting tougher and tougher. The easiest way to open them is to grasp the cap’s edges with your fingers and press down and twist. This gives you more control and makes it easier to open the lid.
Is Your Push Down and Turn Cap Not Opening?
Push down & turn caps can get stuck sometimes if they were screwed on at the wrong angle. If this is happening to you, you’re likely going to need to use a bit of force to open it. Find a sturdy table (not one that you care about scratching - a work table or laundry counter is a good choice). Hold the bottle against the lip of the table so the bottom of the cap is resting atop the table. Grip the bottle firmly and swifty pull down so the cap catches on the table and (hopefully) pops off!
Child Proof Caps
The epicenter of marijuana packaging and branding is nothing without effective child-proof caps. The abundance of therapeutic benefits that are gained from cannabis use has been a major driving force behind the widespread legalization of marijuana around the world.
Now that many nations and states have updated their cannabis laws to allow healthcare practitioners to prescribe medical marijuana, it is of dire importance that cannabis packaging is on par with acceptable pharmaceutical standards.
One of these requirements is that the packaging must have a CR cap. It should be noted that this does not mean that cannabis is poisonous to children. In fact, it has been shown that cannabis plays a significant role in dealing with the symptoms of several ailments peculiar to children.
We all know that no reasonable parent would intentionally leave cannabis laying around where children are, however, mistakes are bound to happen. This is why child-proof packaging is gaining momentum in the cannabis community.
How can child-resistant caps be incorporated into cannabis packaging? Read on to find out! We took our time to evaluate the idea behind this innovation and why many countries’ regulatory bodies mandate its usage in the marijuana industry.
What is a Child-Resistant Cap?
Child-resistant caps (often referred to as child-proof safety caps) are designed such that children would be unable to open them without the supervision of an adult. Did you know that the child-resistant cap design was pioneered by a Canadian doctor, Dr. Henri J. Breault?
Dr. Breault, after taking up the position of Chief of Pediatrics and Director of a Poison Control Center, became worried about the alarming rate at which children were getting poisoned by drugs and other harmful commercial products. To put an end to this, he recommended that a typical commercial drug container should have plastic child-resistant caps.
In 1970, the United States Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA) stipulated that the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CSPC) should set requirements for containers holding prescriptions. Of course, the primary objective was that the containers must adhere to compliance packaging by being child-proof. Tamper evident closure is yet another federal mandate that also applies to the jar cap.
How To Store Cannabis Taking the CRC Cap Into Consideration
Although some marijuana dispensaries may have their products already packed in a suitable container, there are a lot of cannabis dispensaries that have poorly packaged products. Unfortunately, many innocent cannabis consumers do not bother to research the storage methods of their canna-products.
The “toss it in the bag and get moving” method is a common practice amongst cannabis users, especially when it comes to recreational cannabis. This is why the importance of spreading awareness on the subject can't be stressed enough.
The choice of storage used by cannabis companies for kush packaging is highly dependent on the wholesale cannabis product and the expected time of usage. The packaging method utilized determines how the CRC cap will be incorporated. Child-resistant lids and CR closures are required by cannabis law.
The importance of child-resistant foil cannot be overemphasized; they don't just help to protect children from accidentally consuming canna products, they also help to maintain the integrity of the products.
Essential Features of a CR Cap
Basically, child-resistant caps are designed to prevent children under the age of five from accessing cannabis products. They pair very well with tamper evident containers. As noted earlier, the CSPC is empowered to set the requirements for child-proof containers, but the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is empowered to enforce the requirements.
Some of the jar cap features the FDA watches out for before approving a prescription for commercial sale include:
The Nature of the Jar
The jar must be suitable for the type of content it is expected to hold. For long-term storage, plastic and glass materials are the most suitable.
Child-Proof Safety Caps
Child resistant packaging can be equipped with a cap that is designed so that a child under the age of five cannot open it on their own. Most of these caps/lids/closures require a push and turn technique to open. Some child proof caps come with a foil seal that can only be punctured with a sharp object. This extra precaution is taken in case a child learns how to open the lid.
Resealable Closures
To ensure that cannabis containers are child-resistant throughout their use, it is recommended the caps or lids utilized are easy to reseal after they are opened.
Before settling for a specific child-proof lid that checks all the boxes of marijuana packaging, it is important you know the best fit for your jar size. The jar size will determine the size of the lid.
Some of the sizes of airtight glass jars with child-proof lids that can be found on our website include 28mm child-resistant caps, a 28/400 child-resistant cap, and a 38/400 child-resistant cap. You can also get something as wide as a 70 mm child-resistant cap.

A Closer Look at Child-Proof Caps Suppliers
With the cannabis industry growing stronger every year, the regulations imposed on marijuana companies continue to grow stricter. From the early stages of cannabis cultivation to advanced stages of extraction, processing, and more, the strictest quality control measures are being enforced by regulatory bodies.
Cannabis companies are expected to abide by several rules, one of the most important being child-resistant cap regulations. Child-resistant closure requirements are pretty straightforward, and for a product to be deemed safe for commercial sale, the supplier is expected to follow the child-resistant caps law diligently.
It's highly advisable that suppliers don't deviate from the stated child-resistant closures regulations.
How Child Resistant Caps Are Tested
The fact that a container cannot be opened by a child does not automatically qualify it to be child-resistant. Also, it should be noted that a child proof container is expected to be easy for a senior to open.
How is This Assessed?
Various groups of 50 to 200 children, not more than 51 months old, were given a package to open within 10 minutes.
For the first five minutes, the children are allowed to try opening the package without any help. After the first five minutes, they will be shown how to open it and also permitted to use their teeth. If more than 80 percent of these children can open the package, it is considered to have failed the child-resistant test.
Testing for Seniors
The testing for seniors required a group of adults aged between 50 and 70 years old. To pass the test, at least 90 percent of these adults must be able to open the package within 5 minutes without any difficulty. They must also be able to reseal it with ease. A CRC cap is expected to follow these two basic principles. If a CR cap is too difficult for an adult to open or too easy for a child to open it is deemed unacceptable.
Advantages of Using Child-Resistant Jars
Child-resistant jars offer more benefits than just preventing children from gaining access to cannabis in a package without the supervision of an adult. A couple of their numerous benefits include:
Branding
Child-proof caps or jars can be customized with brand logos and names. Brands and recreational dispensaries can leverage this to promote themselves as being unique and compliant at the same time.
Quality Assurance
The use of foil liner in child-resistant jars does not only protect children, it also ensures cannabis products get to consumers the way they're packaged. Any attempt to tamper with the seal cannot be concealed; thus, retaining brand quality.
Prevents Waste
Child-proof caps help to avoid spillovers of cannabis when the container is mistakenly dropped or kicked. This benefit is particularly important to marijuana dispensaries that deal with recreational marijuana. The innovative technology employed in designing these caps makes them more secure than typical caps that could be easily opened by an exerted force.
How Not To Store Your Cannabis Child-Resistant Jar
In the effort of trying to get a cannabis child-resistant jar as far away from children as possible, do not be tempted to store them in any of these places:
- Close to electric or home appliances that give off heat
- In a freezer or generator
- Near grinders and pipes
- In a tobacco humidor
How To Properly Store Cannabis Child-Proof Jar
- Store in a cool place, away from direct sunlight
- Store and label cannabis strains separately to maintain individual flavor and other properties
The Bottom Line
The importance of efficient wholesale edible packaging, and the packaging of other forms of cannabis products, can't be stressed enough. The crucial function of CR caps is why regulatory bodies ensure all child-proof caps suppliers conform to federal laws.
The advantages of using child-resistant smell proof jars go on and on, which is why suppliers and all legal dispensaries go to great lengths to ensure wholesale cannabis products meet the accepted standard for packaging.
